On behalf of myself, governors, staff and children of Glan Usk Primary, we would like to warmly welcome you to our wonderful school. It really is a very special place, full of what we fondly call our GUPS Stars!
At Glan Usk Primary, we provide the very best education for our children and ensure that they are safe and feel happy and secure. Consistently high levels of academic progress across all areas of learning, and support for children’s and staff wellbeing, combine to produce a learning environment in which children and staff can succeed to the very best of their ability.
Glan Usk Primary School is one of the leading primary schools in Wales. We have worked alongside other selected schools in Wales to design the new curriculum and professional learning offer for staff and we are very proud to have played a part in shaping the future of education in Wales.
Our most recent inspection was in May 2018 and the school received an outstanding report under the rigorous Estyn framework. Glan Usk received 5 ‘Excellent’ judgements out of 5. The school continues to deliver fully on our mission and there is a relentless drive for the pursuit of continuing excellence.
The school’s ambitious mission to Excite, Challenge and Empower, is realised through three visionary principles:
To make learning irresistible
To strive for equity and excellence
To nurture our community
We have a whole school approach to wellbeing. Our values, relationships, practice and pedagogy and all of our systems and processes are underpinned by 5 key elements which help us in putting our vision into action.
Safety
Belonging
Agency
Efficacy
Love and Care
Our school has a wide range of facilities including excellent outdoor learning areas, an all weather pitch, a MUGA and two forest school areas, all of which enhance the experiences we are able to offer. There are very good opportunities for personal development of staff and promotion within the school over time. We are also a provider of Initial Teacher Education and support the training of new teachers into the profession. We place great emphasis on developing a strong partnership between home and school, working together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support.
We feel privileged to play an active role in providing our learners with firm foundations, a love of learning and in shaping their futures, supported by working in partnership with our families and the wider community.
