Year 5

Autumn Term Information

Blwyddyn 5 have had a lovely couple of weeks back in school! We are so proud of how they have settled back in.
Our theme this term is 'Who Am I?' and we hope this theme will help our Year 5 learners discover their sense of self and identity.
In line with our theme, we have read the text 'The Name Jar' by Yangsook Choi. The learners enjoyed interviewing their families about their names, sharing their findings with their friends and writing about the stories of their names.  We are now reading the text ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The horse' by Charlie Mackesy.  This text will structure the next part of answering our theme question 'Who Am I?'.
For SHINE learners have shared a plethora of fantastic ideas which we look forward to exploring.  Learners are particularly looking forward to learning about how their bodies work and how the environment effects their holistic health and wellbeing.
In maths we have been looking at Place Value, working on reading, writing, ordering and partitioning numbers. We have been using the column method for addition and subtraction, the grid method for multiplication and the chunking method for division.  We look forward to consolidating these skills and discovering a range of additional methods this term.
