GUPS Senedd

At Glan Usk Primary School, our GUPS Senedd plays a key role in shaping the future of our school, ensuring every pupil’s voice is heard and valued (Article 12 – Right to be heard). The Senedd is made up of dedicated pupil groups, each leading an important area of school life.

Curriculum Champions, led by our First and Deputy Ministers, work alongside class representatives, school leaders, and Governors to share ideas and promote inclusivity. Their focus is on creating a curriculum filled with real-life experiences, essential life skills, awareness days, and community events.

Heddlu Bach help keep our school safe and respectful (Article 19 – Protection from harm and violence). This year, they are concentrating on safety inside and outside the school gates, improving our grounds by reducing litter, and encouraging wildlife to thrive.

Eco Warriors are passionate about sustainability and caring for our planet (Article 29 – Goals of education, including respect for the environment). Their mission includes reducing litter, recycling batteries as part of the Newport Schools Battery Recycling Competition, saving electricity, and growing healthy food in our polytunnel.

Healthy Heroes champion physical and mental wellbeing (Article 24 – Right to health and nutritious food). They will promote healthy eating through challenges and tasting days, encourage active breaks and playground zones, and support mental health with calm corners and kindness campaigns.

Peace Ambassadors focus on kindness and conflict resolution (Article 31 – Right to relax and play). Their plans include designing a Glan Usk Peace logo, agreeing on a bilingual motto, creating a peace garden, and promoting positive playtimes through Playground Pals.

Criw Cymraeg celebrate Welsh language and culture (Article 30 – Right to use your own language and culture). They will lead Welsh initiatives, organise assemblies, and make learning Welsh fun through enrichment activities, all while working towards the Arian Award.

Digital Citizens ensure pupils are safe and responsible online (Article 17 – Access to reliable information). They will look after school devices, support others in using AI safely, and continue promoting digital resilience.

Learning‑Ready Leaders are part of the school Senedd and promote positive attendance, punctuality and attitudes to learning. They champion HERO behaviour (Here, Everyday, Ready to learn, On time), share key messages with pupils and celebrate good attendance.

Together, these Senedd groups make sure Glan Usk Primary is a place where every child’s rights are respected, protected, and championed.
