Safeguarding
Safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, caring and inclusive environment where all children and young people feel respected, valued and protected. Our school follows the Welsh Government’s safeguarding guidance and procedures, including Keeping Learners Safe, and works closely with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for our learners. All staff and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training and are expected to share concerns promptly so that pupils receive the support they need to stay safe.
All staff who work at Glan Usk Primary School have had safeguarding training that equips them to recognise and respond to child welfare concerns. These concerns are passed to the Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding, in our case the Headteacher, who follows strict guidelines on how to deal with any issues raised.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads are…

Mrs A Roberts
Headteacher, Designated Safeguarding Person

Miss H Brown

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a safeguarding partnership between the police and schools that enables prompt support for children affected by domestic abuse.
When police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a parent or carer of one of our pupils, the school is notified through Operation Encompass before the start of the next school day. Information is shared with the school’s designated Key Adult (Mrs Roberts) so that appropriate, child-centred support can be offered in line with the child’s needs and wishes. All information is treated in the strictest confidence and handled with sensitivity.
Experiencing domestic abuse can have a significant and lasting impact on a child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, learning and overall development. It is recognised as an Adverse Childhood Experience. Early awareness and support help to reduce these effects and promote positive outcomes.
By strengthening communication between the police and schools, Operation Encompass helps staff better understand a child’s lived experience and provide timely, nurturing support, helping to make each child’s day better and their future brighter.
Domestic Abuse – Live Fear Free
If you, a family member, a friend, or someone you are concerned about is experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence, confidential support is available from the Live Fear Free Helpline, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
